An update on this post here, it has been confirmed: After a long process of exchanges between myself, the society for DBT, my old treatment team in Boston, my university, and Marsha Linehan herself (!), I have finally been allocated a place at the 2-day workshop being run next week in London!!!!
It is a once in a lifetime opportunity as it is being run by Marsha Linehan who is the founder of DBT, and who is coming all the way to London to hold the workshop which will focus on the Emotion Regulation module.
I know a lot of people have requested similar things to me (as told by the Society for DBT), so I feel extremely lucky to have been given this rare opportunity. It is pure chance that I have been coincidentally in treatment with friends and colleagues of Marsha, and that her workshop is being held at my university; both things that have enabled me to ultimately receive my place on the course.
Ironically… My therapist is going to be at the event as well! I am freaking out slightly about this, as seeing therapists outside of sessions brings up a lot of mixed emotions for me, and certainly doesn’t help my hyper-vigilance or anxiety levels. In preparation we will be making a Cope Ahead plan which will hopefully help me manage ahead of – and of course at – the time.
Watch this space – I will be posting all about it next week! Can’t wait to meet Marsha 👍👍👍
